Vik Beach

Vik Beach. The village of Vík (or Vík í Mýrdal in full) is the southernmost village in Iceland, located on the main ring road around the island, around 180 km (110 mi) by road SSE of Reykjavík.

In 1991, the American journal Islands Magazine counted this beach as one of the ten most beautiful beaches on Earth. Its stretch of black basalt sand is certainly impressive but this is also one of the wettest places in Iceland. The cliffs west of the beach are home to many seabirds, most notably puffins which burrow into the shallow soils during the nesting season. Offshore lie fingers of basalt rock (stacks) remnants of a once more extensive cliffline Reynisfjall now battered by the sea. There is no landmass between here and Antarctica and the Atlantic rollers can attack with full force. Folklore tells us that they are former trolls who tried to drag their boats out to sea only to be caught by the rising dawn. The sea around them is rather wild and stormy, so travelers will not be surprised to discover a monument to the memory of drowned seamen on the beach.

He began his duties in 1937 and construction of the church took over 38 years.

Architects design the State Guðjón Samuelsson church was commissioned in 1937. He is said to have been designed to resemble basalt lava flows of Iceland's landscape. It took 38 years to build the church. Construction work began in 1945 and ended in 1986, a landmark tower which was completed long before the actual completion of the church. Crypt under the choir was consecrated in 1948, the tower and the wing was completed in 1974. The middle section was ordained in 1986. Located in the center of Reykjavik, this is one of the most famous city landmarks and visible throughout the city. It is similar in style to the expressionist architecture Grundtvig Church of Copenhagen, Denmark, completed in 1926.

The church is also used as an observation tower. The observer can take the elevator up to the deck look and see Reykjavik and the surrounding mountains. Statue of explorer Leif Eriksson (1929-1932) by Alexander Stirling Calder in front of the church preceded the construction. It was a gift from the United States to honor the 1930 Althing Millennial Festival, commemorating the 1000th anniversary of Iceland's parliament in Þingvellir in 930 AD.

In 2008, the church experienced a major recovery from the main tower, and covered in scaffolding. At the end of 2009, restoration was completed and the scaffolding was removed.

Geyser

Geyser is a kind of hot springs that burst periodically, removing the hot water and steam into the air. The name geyser comes from Geysir in Haukadalur, Iceland. The word became a verb gjósa Icelandic language, "gush".

Geyser formation depends on the specific hydrogeological conditions are found only in a few places on Earth, and therefore Geysers is a rare phenomenon. About 1000 exist around the world, about half of Yellowstone National Park, USA. Bursts of activity of the geysers may stop due to precipitation of minerals in the geysers, earthquakes, and human intervention.

Ejection of liquid nitrogen has been observed on the moon of Neptune, Triton. In addition at the south pole of Mars is covered with ice, there is the possibility of carbon dioxide sembuaran. This phenomenon is also often called the Geysers, but not caused by geothermal energy, but heating by the sun and the greenhouse effect. On Triton, the nitrogen can be sprayed with a height of 8 km.
